Johnny Depp has been keeping a low profile since his divorce from Amber Heard, but the actor couldn’t resist making a surprise appearance at an event honouring his friend, Harry Dean Stanton.
Depp, 53, made an unannounced appearance Sunday night at The Ace Hotel Theater in Los Angeles, where a host of actors and musicians were on hand to celebrate the Vidiots foundation presenting Stanton, 90, with the first ever Harry Dean Stanton Award.
The event included appearances and performances by John C. Reilly, Kris Kristofferson, Father John Misty, Harper Simon, Inara George, David Lynch and host Ed Begley Jr. Depp made a surprise cameo, playing guitar alongside Stanton on harmonica in a rendition of Harry Nillson’s Everybody’s Talkin’.
Depp, who’s worked with Stanton on films like The Man Who Cried and Rango, also posed for photos backstage with Kristofferson.

The actor has rarely been spotted since his split from Heard, and was last seen back in August climbing aboard Saudi Prince Abdulaziz’s yacht in Ibiza, Spain. Depp will most likely be amping up his public appearances as he begins to promote his new film, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which just debuted its first trailer.
Heard will also be back in the spotlight with a new role as Mera, queen of Atlantis, in the upcoming Justice League movie. Images of Heard in costume as the heroine have already been released. This will be the actress’ first major role since she filed for divorce in May.
