Miley Cyrus admits she doesn't think much of Mariah Carey
In the past Miley Cyrus claimed her Godmother Dolly Parton, 70 and musician Joan Jett, 58, as her musical inspirations, but that list doesn’t include Mariah Carey, 45.
Cyrus, 23, recently told a contestant on The Voice that "not everyone can be Mariah Carey," and in the October issue of Elle magazine, she revealed exactly how she feels about the iconic singer.
"I've never really been a fan, because it's so much about Mariah Carey," Cyrus said.
"That's part of her shtick; I can see through that. That's part of what makes her a gay icon; like, it's about Mimi! It's about what she's wearing, and it's about her. What I make isn't about me. It's about sharing my story; it's about someone being connected to what I'm saying."
As a result, the actress and singer focusses on her music rather than chase business deals. "That's why you don't see me, like, on the sides of buses, selling s***," she explained. "I mean, what am I going to do — sell makeup? Mostly, I tell people, 'Don't wear makeup' ... I don't really [wear makeup] for the contestants, because some of these girls come from f--king Arkansas with cake face on. Like, I don't want these kids to come out here and wear a bunch of makeup."
Cyrus also told the publication that she was once the "least-paid person" among her Hannah Montana costars, despite being the lead character on the hit Disney Channel show. “I didn't know any better… I was just like, 'I can be on Disney! Yeah, I want to do it!'"
Cyrus starred in Hannah Montanna between 2006 to 2011.
