Perth Teen’s Bali nightmare over
Perth teenager Jamie Murphy has been set free.
This morning, after Murphy was released from custody, Bali’s police chief Wayan Sumara confirmed that the white substance found in the 18-year-old’s possession at a Kuta nightclub on Tuesday morning was not an illicit drug.
It was a mixture of a pain killer “two types of cough medicine, and caffeine," he said.
Sumara alleged that a man gave Murphy the substance on the street. “According to the man in the street, [he said], ‘You can try this … that’s medicine… that’s better for your life.”
But lawyer Made Suarjana, who spoke on behalf of Murphy, said Murphy denies he bought the substance.
“He is very happy [to hear test results are negative],” said Suarjana. “He was never in possession of [an illegal drug].”
Suarjana said that Murphy, who had travelled to Bali with friends for a holiday, claimed the substance had appeared “like magic” when he was searched at the nightclub.
