There were plenty of outfits that caused a stir at last night’s ARIA Awards, but it was Tove Lo’s so-called “uterus dress” that had tongues wagging most furiously.

The 29-year-old Swedish pop star, who joined big winner Flume onstage to perform their collaboration “Say It”, walked the rain-soaked red carpet in a sheer orange mini dress with a sparkly red uterus emblazoned in an anatomically correct position.

Talking to WHO a day later, she expresses no regrets for her head-turning choice. “It’s probably the boldest thing I’ve ever worn,” says Lo. “It’s symbolic.”

The singer is no stranger to controversy. From her 2014 breakout hit “Habits (Stay High)” right through to recent album release Lady Wood, she has openly challenged which subject matter female singers are “supposed” to tackle.

“I understand people find it too much, but it’s a wink for sure,” says Lo. “People really feel the need to define what I’m doing: what’s the reason? What’s the purpose? I’m not trying to start anything up. We’ve been through this already—Madonna did it years ago. If I start to polish and edit my art to not upset people, then I’ll lose the whole reason for what I’m doing.”

The dress—made by Swedish designer Emilie Janrell at the suggestion from Lo’s stylist, Crap Diem, made international headlines overnight. Not that Lo had a lot of time to read the stories.

Admitting to being “dusty” after a week of promotional appearances and a long night at the ARIAs, Lo asks: “Are people saying a lot of shit about it? I was sent a few articles saying I’d made the best dressed list, so I figured, great! I’m going to just assume that’s what people are saying.

“I was asked on radio this morning how I feel when a dress starts an outrage, and I said, what? Outrage? It kind of astonishes me when that kind of thing is what people think is a big deal. I’m really happy I wore it. I feel great about it.” But where does she go from here? “Next time? Naked, I guess!”
