To celebrate what has been a stellar year, Jesinta Campbell recently flew to New York for a mini-break with fiancé Lance Buddy Franklin. “I know it sounds crazy but for the entire year we don’t spend weekends together because Bud plays on weekends,” she tells WHO, from the phone in New York. “So to spend some quality time together, and to go to bar and talk to people who have no idea who we are, is great.”
While the New Yorkers might not know who the statuesque brunette sitting next to them was, the former pageant queen’s stellar year has made her hard to forget in Australia. Among the 25-year-olds achievements are becoming an ambassador for retail giant David Jones, switching from long time agent to a new international company and just recently, releasing her own health, fitness and lifestyle book, Live a Beautiful Life – which has already become a bestseller. “You could say it’s been a big year – for both Bud and I,” the Gold Coast born beauty says.
The trip coincided with the end of the AFL season, which saw Franklin’s team, the Sydney Swans, fall at the final hurdle in the grand final. But considering that just 12 months prior, the AFL’s biggest star wasn’t even playing the game due to mental health issues, Campbell says she’s proud of how far he’s come. “This year was really focusing on his health and his happiness,” she says. “As hard as it was to go public with [his struggles], if we can take some of the pain and hurt from everyone else then that’s one small thing we’ve done. We’ve come along way in 12 months and I’m really proud of him. He’s kicked arse this year.”
As to what the future holds, Campbell says a wedding is on the forefront. “This year with Bud it’s really been one day at a time. So we will kind of see what happens next year, “ she says. “But for now we’re just enjoying life.”
