1\ Good for the planet
Cotton has been around since, well, forever! But the planet-friendly cotton industry and ‘green’ initiative is a relatively new phenomenon. Basically the cotton industry is responding to climate changes in a smart way that helps us all. How so? Growers have modified their processes to be better for the environment and have also reduced the amount of spraying of chemical pesticides. Tick! Not only that, but a load of the production process now uses renewable energy sources (such as solar panels). Farmers also make an effort to conserve areas of vegetation, which helps them be more resilient to drought and climate change.
It’s not just the frontline farmers helping the environment. Kmart is a proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and has announced that by mid-2020, they will source 100 per cent of their cotton more sustainably for their Kmart-branded clothing, towel and bedding ranges*.
*Excluding footwear, accessories and functional trims (e.g. zips) and decorative details (e.g. lace or ribbons).
2\ Good for your style
Cotton is the number one fabric choice by fashionistas and women for everyday wear. In fact, cotton has been used in fashion since the 1600s!
Why, you ask?
- It feels soft on your skin.
- It breathes well (particularly in hot climates, making body odour less of an issue).
- It requires less washing and is so much easier to clean and care for than other fabrics.
- Cotton is made from natural fibres so very rarely causes an allergic reaction even for those with sensitive skin.
- It is amazingly versatile! It can be knitted into a whole range of different fabrics including corduroy, lace and velour.
Oh the list goes on! No matter what the occasion, cotton has your back!
3\ Good for your budget
It can cost a pretty penny to look fashionably gorgeous around the clock, but not with cotton as your base wardrobe staple. As one of the least expensive textiles on the roll call, cotton allows you to get your new season look at irresistibly low prices. Chances are you probably own more cotton than you realise from clothing to bedding and everything in between. It is the perfect solution for almost any situation and the best is, you can get that luxe look for less.
