The baby on the way joins the couple's daughter Carmen Gabriela, 6½, plus sons Romeo Alejandro David, 2 next month, Leonardo Ángel Charles, 3½, and Rafael Thomas, 4½. Alec is also dad to daughter Ireland, 24, who he shares with his ex- Kim Basinger.
2019 was a difficult year for Hilaria and the 30 Rock actor. In April she suffered her first miscarriage. Then four months into her pregnancy, Hilaria revealed in November that they'd "lost our baby girl".
"We are very sad to share that today we learned that our baby passed away at 4 months. We also want you to know that even though we are not ok right now, we will be," she wrote on Instagram alongside a video of herself with daughter Carmen.
"We are so lucky with our 4 healthy babies — and we will never lose sight of this. I told Carmen and took this so I could send it to Alec. I guess this is a good way to share it with you too.
"I told her that this baby isn’t going to come after all … but we will try very hard to give her a little sister another time,” Hilaria continued. "I’m really devastated right now … I was not expecting this when I went to my scan today. I don’t know what else to say … I’m still in shock and don’t have this all quite clear."
After a rough few months filled with an unfathomable amount of loss, Hilaria said she's been seeking treatment "pretty much every week" to help her recover.
"There is nothing to lose by going to someone and talking. I said it from the beginning: I wasn’t ok when it happened, but I knew that I would be and I wanted to be," she wrote on Instagram. "For myself, I really needed to choose happiness in such a difficult time. And I needed to work very hard for it."
"I had to tell myself that I deserved to heal and to be happy again. This lesson became my mantra," she also told Glamour about experiencing two tragedies so close to each other. "Processing and going through grieving was important, but I didn’t have to be condemned to a life of emotional punishment and suffering."
