All the things you didn't see at the Golden Globes
While the Golden Globe Awards were handed out Jan. 8 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, all the main studio and network parties happened on-site, too. Here are a few fun untelevised tidbits from the first major kudocast of the season:
Tracey Ellis Ross behaves just like we would
When the star of Black-ish met with the press backstage after she won best actress in a comedy series, she admitted, "When they said my name, I was thinking, 'They said my name right?' This is so cool! It was really cool. It was a special treat. I said my entire speech to Meryl Streep. I was like, 'Am I doing alright?'"
The cast of the Crown reigns at the after-party
At the Weinstein Company and Netflix shindig, a happy John Lithgow, who plays Winston Churchill in the Golden-Globe-winning television drama The Crown, told WHO his cast triumph is "fantastic." As for Claire Foy taking the gong for best actress in a drama series for her portrayal of a young Queen Elizabeth, he added, "I'm so ecstatic for Claire!"
Lithgow, clearly having a ball, found the show's main table and settled there with his wife Mary, where they snuggled up and chatted with some pals. Foy stayed close to the table, dancing to the music with a mini Moët bottle in hand. Clutching her trophy, she did tell WHO about winning: "I'm very, very shocked. I'm in shock!"
The Force is with J.J. Abrams, and a hairdresser at the HBO bash
Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, who produces the Showcase series Westworld, said at the HBO after-party the Golden Globes tribute to Carrie Fisher, who died on Dec. 27, "was beautiful and not long enough. She was extraordinary and it's impossible to really quantify the impact she had on not just legions of movies and books, but also her friends. The wisdom, the wit, the heart. She was like no other, so she's deeply missed."
Meanwhile, The Night Of actress Amara Karan experienced what she called "a mega wardrobe malfunction" where the zipper split on the back of her dress. "So the lovely gentleman sitting next to me gives me his jacket," she explained. "I went to the bathroom so that my Spanx weren't hanging out. The hair guy, James, was just amazing. He's the man of the night. He was my knight in shining armor. So he's doing hair in the ladies' restroom. He takes out my zip, he unpicks it, takes the zip out, fixes the zip, and then stitches me back into the dress! And he's a hairstylist!"
Also circulating were Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, who walked out of the party arm-in-arm followed by Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth.
Working the room (or not) at the Fox party
Americans stars and real-life sweethearts Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys seemed to be on the opposite sides of the party while at the Fox post-show celebration. Even so, a source told WHO that Russell was in great spirits and that she and Rhys couldn’t look any happier together. The two were " out and proud as a couple."
Though Busy Philipps and Michelle Williams are famous BFFs, making the case for joining them are Sarah Paulson and Amanda Peet. The actresses didn’t leave each other's sides for more than a bathroom break or two, and when they did, they stopped to take selfies with well-wishers. For most of the night, they were locked in a lively conversation together in their own banquette and not talking to anyone else.
Getting down at the NBC Universal soiree
Now this a place for cutting loose as the DJ spun hits from Michael Jackson to Bruno Mars. In particular, cute couple Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner turned it up on the dance floor, with Nick Jonas also at the party. Besties Minka Kelly and Mandy Moore snapped group photos with friends while Moore's This Is Us co-star Milo Ventimiglia just soaked up the vibe after being greeted by Hilary Duff after entering the room.
When WHO asked him what the best part of the evening was, Ventimiglia said, "Spending time with my cast dressed up like prom!"
