Q: You are now in the Pirates family.
A: Yes, it's very exciting. I was kind of lucky to sneak into a movie franchise that already has a worldwide huge fan base.
Q: What was it like to be on a set as enormous as Pirates?
A: Pirates takes it to the next level. On Gods of Egypt, we were mostly acting in front of a greenscreen, which after about four months, you want to stab yourself in the eye with a sharp pen. [Laughs] But Pirates gave us the opportunity to act in such wonderful sets. I mean, they really spent their money wisely in the sense that they took the time to really create an environment where the filmmakers and actors could be as free as possible and as spontaneous as they could be.
Q: You get to trade barbs, and spar, with Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem.
A: Oh, it was great. I don't think I sparred — I definitely got punched in the face if that's the case. Acting alongside those guys is a lesson every day. I learnt more in those six months of working with those two than I had in years.
Q: Had you ever been on the ride in Disneyland or Disney World?
A: I have. Just after I got cast. I think since then it's kind of revamped, but at the time it was crazy to see that such a franchise came out of, I guess, such a simple ride.
Q: Dou you get to travel with your partner Chloe and how has fatherhood been with your daughter Birdie?
A: It's been good. It's been great. It's been a fun experience, definitely life-changing, different and exciting and new. We're pretty happy. We mix it up. We're kind of just going with the flow at the moment and just seeing how we go day by day, to be honest. We kind of prefer to travel together. That's how we work best.
Q: What would you like to do next?
A: What I love about these movies is that they afford the actor to take risks on smaller movies, different independent movies, movies that may not get a look-in sometimes, and so that I hope after this, I can afford to take some further risks and do something that I've never heard of before, a little left wing.
