Emma Watson took to Instagram to let her fans and any avid readers know she was hiding books throughout London’s subway network.
The 26-year-old posted a video of herself placing a copy of Mum & Me & Mum, by Maya Angelou, on an escalator.
While it may seem like a random act of kindness, the Watson’s spontaneous book-sharing stems from a collaboration between her female-focused book club, called Our Shared Shelf, and Books on the Underground, a group project that encourages people to hide their favourite books for others to discover.
Mum & Me & Mum is the November and December pick for Watson’s book club. The memoir focuses on Angelou’s relationship with her mother, which changed from one of pain to one of love.
Watson is not just gifting copies of her prized book; the actress has also been leaving sweet notes in each copy she’s hidden, according to an Instagram post by Books on the Underground.
“Will your morning be worth talking about?” states the post, which appeared on September 2. “More copies of Mum&Me&Mum will hit the London Underground today with @emmawatson’s note inside…”
The Books on the Underground’s Instagram account also left clues for Londoners lucky enough to be nearby the subway.
