While news of both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon's conclusion may appear to indicate the final chapter of The Big Bang Theory universe, the show's creator Chuck Lorre announced in April 2023 that he was in the early stages of developing another series in the franchise.
A presentation at Warner Bros. Discovery's press day revealed that the new spin-off is currently in the works at HBO Max.
Whilst no plot or cast details have been announced yet, it is believed the new show will feature a new cast but offer the opportunity for known Big Bang Theory stars to appear in guest spots.
Following the news of the new spinoff series fans have speculated about what the new show could be about. Whilst many fans hoped the show would focus on one of the characters from the original show, such as Rajesh Koothrappali, it's unlikely since many of the actors haven't been keen to revisit their original roles and have not been open to becoming involved in any other series after their 12-year stint on the original show.
One popular theory is that the new show will focus on Paige, a re-occurring character in the Young Sheldon series.
Sporadically reappearing on the series, Paige is another child prodigy in Dr. John Strugis' class. The last few seasons of the series has seen her rebel after her parents split up and has dropped out of college - a drastically different path to Sheldon.
Big Bang Theory aired for 12 seasons between 2007 and 2019, garnering just under 18 million viewers for its series finale.
The show featured a star-studded cast, including Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco, alongside Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Melissa Rauch, Mayim Bialik and Kevin Sussman.
