"I was obsessed with understanding this far flung civilisation and its links from the east in Tahiti on to the west to South America," Dave wrote in the caption.
"So I explored every inch of the island on foot and horseback and motorbike after time in Polynesia then headed to Peru, Bolivia and Chile and was blown away by all the connections....
"Some ancient and sadly some more recent with the enslavement of the native rapanui islanders into the silver mines of potosi."

The nostalgic post comes just over two weeks after Dave confirmed he was engaged to his partner, Shazli.
“After a lifetime of looking, I am absolutely and completely in love with the kindest, calmest, most decent hard-working bloke who balances me perfectly,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I was the guy who was told a thousand times when you least expect it, it will happen… and it did!”
Dave met Shazli in a Sydney pub last year, and proposed shortly after re-entering the Big Brother house.
“I thought I had hit the jackpot. He was so polite and well-mannered, not to mention good looking,” the reality star told Woman's Day, revealing he popped the question during a trip to Lord Howe Island.
“I asked him, ‘Would you join me and journey together through the rest of our lives and marry me?’. He looked at me tearfully and I knew it was a yes!"
