Police are testing the remains of a body found yesterday in bushland, 65km north of Melbourne.
The body was found by a bushwalker in Mount Macedon, about 20km from where police had been previously conducting an investigation in relation to missing Melbourne mum Karen Ristevski, 47.
A crime scene has been established in the area, and the remains, which have not yet been identified, have been taken away for forensic testing.
A result could come as early as Wednesday, according to a Fairfax report.
“We were all in tears yesterday,” Ristevski’s friend, Sharryn Hili, tells WHO of her and her friends hearing the news of the discovery of a body. “We were all on the phone.”
Karen disappeared on June 29 last year. Her husband Borce said he last saw her leaving their Avondale Heights home following an argument.
The couple have a daughter, Sarah, 21.
During their investigations into the case in December last year, police were scouring an area in Gisborne South, around 20km south of Mount Macedon.
Ristevski, who ran the fashion boutique, Bella Bleu, "was always positive, never negative,” says Hili. “I just want the closure so we can deal with the next chapter.”
