Speaking to Daily Mail, the 29-year-old spoke about the "gut-wrenching" experience but blamed herself for the breakdown of their relationship.
"It was intuition. He just didn't come home that night. He came home the next day," Melissa said.
"Like, it was a bit gut-wrenching. One of the hardest things I've gone through," she added.
Melissa added that during the time of Aalden's affair, which occurred when their now four-year-old son Cohen was just one, the couple were going through a rough patch.
Melissa told the publication, "I confronted him about [the cheating] and at first he didn't say anything until a couple of days later. At the time one of our friends had just committed suicide and it was probably one of the most rockiest parts of our relationship and looking back, we lived in different houses to have a bit of a breather."
"It took about a year to forgive him. We lived in separate homes and we were able to co-parent really well and after a year I realised I need to let it go."
Aalden also spoke to Daily Mail, claiming that he's "made a decision to commit the rest of [his] life to Melissa," insisting that he will ever cheat again.
"It happened when we going through a rough patch. Melissa came back from a funeral and told me she wanted to move out and find herself. She was very insecure," he explained.
"Reality of it is I was hurt and I felt like the person I loved had left me so I went out and I been drinking with friends and yeah, I guess I was seeking attention or approval from someone else."
The pair share son Cohen, four and co-parent Mikayla, 11, whom Melissa shares with her ex-partner from a previous relationship.
