WATCH: A history of her struggles
The singer took to Instagram to confirm that following her indefinite hiatus back in January - she is now seeking professional medical help to help her focus on her "me time."
On Wednesday, Britney posted a picture of a quote which read": “Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit.”
The quote was teamed up with the caption: “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time.’ :)”
A source close to the family told PEOPLE that “Britney just needed to focus on herself” as she cares for her father Jamie after his “life-threatening” colon rupture.
“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her,” the source explained.
“He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her — she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.”
TMZ reported that she's been “distraught” over her father’s poor health, and has been living in the facility for about a week.
She is expected to remain there for 30 days.
Earlier this year, Britney confirmed she was taking a hiatus to look after her ailing father.
“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” she told fans on January 5.
“I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first … and that’s the decision I had to make."
“I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.”
"A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalised and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand.”
Britney is exceptionally close to her father.
In 2008, a Los Angeles court named Jamie permanent conservator of her affairs. He was also named permanent co-conservator of her estate, along with an attorney, Andrew Wallet.
TMZ have reported on her father's illness. It's believed he's had two surgeries to correct major issues with his intestines and colon, which started last year after his colon “spontaneously ruptured.”
