Caitlyn Jenner took to Instagram to celebrate a year since she debuted as Caitlyn Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair. She captioned the video, “Can’t believe it’s been one year since the @vanityfair cover. So happy, best year of my life #happyfirstbirthday #callmecait #learningtolove.”
It’s been 40 years since Jenner won gold in the decathlon at the Olympics. To celebrate, Caitlyn will be the cover story in this month’s Sports Illustrated magazine. The magazine’s group editor, Paul Fitchenbaum, said having Caitlyn on the cover will “bring a fresh perspective to one of the greatest athletic performances of all time.”
Caitlyn has played an important role in raising issues about the transgender community to the public. Last May, Caitlyn spoke to Diane Sawyer about herself and the transgender community, and this reached 17 million viewers.
She told ET, that she wanted “to help people understand what being gender dysphoric, transgender -- whatever you want to call it – is,” as this is a topic which hasn’t really been publicly acknowledged to the extent that Caitlyn has been able to achieve with her fame.
