According to TMZ, Diatchenko's family hadn't heard from him in a few days so they called police to do a wellness check. His body was discovered soon after that. CNN also reports police were notified by the star's co-workers after he failed to respond to a series of messages.
Days before his untimely death, Diatchenko— who was a first-generation American of Ukrainian, Greek and Swedish descent— had sent in an audition tape for a guest role on NCIS that "went really well", according to a close friend.
Aside from receiving praise for his role in Chernobyl Diaries, Diatchenko was also known for his roles on How I Met Your Mother, Bones, Sons of Anarchy, 2 Broke Girls, and Criminal Minds. He also appeared on films like Get Smart, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Along with this, he lent his voice to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Family Guy and The Wild Thornberries.
In 2014, he made headlines when he was charged with killing, skinning and eating his ex-girlfriend's pet rabbit. He was also accused of sending the woman graphic photos of the dead bunny.
In spite of this, The Wrap reports he pleaded no contest to animal cruelty and was sentenced to three years of probation. He was also ordered to partake in 48 hours of animal cruelty counselling along with 60 days of community labour.
