“A 70-year-old man has been arrested this morning shortly before 8 o’clock in relation to the murder of Lyn Dawson,” confirmed Detective Chief Inspector Chris Olen.
“He’s been taken to Southport where he will be charged. NSW police will seek an extradition.”
On Jan. 9, 1982, Lynette Dawson, a 33-year-old wife and mother of two little girls, went missing and she has never been seen since.
Chris has steadfastly maintained his innocence, saying the mother of his children, Shanelle, then 4, and Sherryn, 2, simply ran away.
At the time, Chris, a school teacher, was having an affair with his student Joanne Curtis.

The authorities spoke about the "breakthrough" they received thanks to Dawson's former teenage lover, Joanne Curtis.
The Daily Telegraph reported Curtis, the teenage lover who moved in with Dawson days after Lynette disappeared, was instrumental with giving the police information that led to Dawson's arrest in Queensland on Wednesday.

"She is one of a raft of witnesses, both old and new, who police said helped 'tie the pieces of the puzzle together'."
They now believe her body is buried in a lonely bush grave.
“They corroborate Joanne’s evidence,” a senior police source said of the fellow witnesses.
