The onetime teacher was charged with his missing wife Lynette’s murder in December last year, a crime to which he has pleaded not guilty.
‘Shortly after midday, a 70-year-old man was charged here on an offence of carnal knowledge,’ Sex Crimes Squad Commander Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec confirmed.
‘He has been given strict conditional bail to attend the Downing Centre on August 8.’
Dawson, the subject of the popular Teacher’s Pet podcast, has steadfastly maintained his innocence of the murder charge.
His lawyer Greg Walsh last week argued that the trail had been ‘contaminated’ by the podcast about his wife’s disappearance.
Both charges will be heard in August.
