Steve explained that the pair, who met in 2019, had been doing one-on-one sessions together up to four times per week. However, he soon began having concerns about Yue’s intentions, as she would bombard him with social media messages and get "jealous" when he worked with other clients.
Steve also claimed she once waited for him outside his home in Elizabeth Bay with a Christmas gift and frequently asked him to travel with her to a training camp in Melbourne.
“You start to fear for your safety when you’ve expressed no many times and it’s just not accepted,” he said, as reported by NCA NewsWire.
Steve banned Yue from his programs in May 2020, after it was alleged she owed him $1,350 in unpaid fees. He told the court that she then used social media to track him down at a gym in Kirribilli.
“That rattled me because how does someone find me in North Sydney? The words from her mouth were, ‘I’ve been coming here every day of the week,'” he said.
An altercation between Steve and Yue was filmed days later at Caddies Creek Reserve in Kellyville. In the footage, the professional interpreter can be seen approaching Steve and his partner Harika Vancuylenberg as they pack equipment into their car following a group fitness class.
“You are not engaging with him. You pay him what you owe him,” Harikia says in the clip. “You are not talking! He has told you $1,300. That is what you owe him.”
Yue responds with: “If you don’t agree we can go to court, because I have the record that I paid you.”
Yue was served with an interim AVO after the incident, but on Wednesday, her barrister Michael Fokkes told the court that his client had approached the Commando to settle her debt and was never told to stop contacting him. He also questioned why the father-of-four continued to train Yue if her behaviour left him so “unnerved.”
Yue participated in his boot camps between March 2019 and May 2020 and is believed to have forked out more than $19,000 in cash during this time.
Yue is currently under instruction to stay away from Steve and his home until the case is resolved. She is expected to give evidence in court on Wednesday.
