Listeners were left in shock after last week's announcement that Kate Langbroek would be leaving her HIT radio show for the remainder of the year.
Appearing on Sunrise this morning, her co-host of twenty years, Dave Hughes, dished on how Kate broke the news to him - and boy is it awkward.
The 48-year-old claimed he hadn't heard from Kate in weeks when he suddenly received a text message from her.
"It's a weird one cause she's gone to Italy to find herself in Italy with her family," Dave said, adding, "She's over there and we followed her and set up a little studio there in Bologna, so she can broadcast the show from there and she was doing that for the first six months of the year."
"And then she just texted me a couple of weeks ago and said "nup, can't be bothered for the rest of the year," he continued.
The ridiculousness of the message was not lost on the comedian.
"It was just a text message. I hadn't heard from her in a couple of weeks and then just a text message!" Dave added with a laugh.

Speaking on Hughesy & Katelast week, Dave stated that Kate - who recently relocated to Italy with her family - was taking a break from the show until 2020.
The radio host was completely blindsided by her decision to leave their show.
"We were planning for you to come back in a few weeks," he confronted Kate on air, as she called into the drive show from Italy.
"Well, you were trying to talk me into that," she replied.
Hughesy and Kate have been radio partners since 2001 - when the pair joined Dave O'Neil as hosts of Nova 100's inaugural breakfast show.
While on the air last week, Dave also called out Kate for ended their radio partnership via a group message with himself and the show’s executive producer, Sacha French.

"You texted me and Sacha a few weeks ago," Dave continued before Sacha explained the content of the message.
"Just that she was sad, that she needed to have her year," she summarised.
In January, Kate moved to Bologna, Italy with her husband Peter and their four children - Lewis, Sunday, Artie and Jan - for a year-long "gap year."
Kate continued to host Hughesy & Kate from a home studio until recently.
