Devastating news for Prince William
A 17-year-old boy has tragically drowned in a lake, despite desperate efforts by Prince William and an emergency crew to save him.
The British teenager – named as Robbie Lea – is reported to have got into difficulty in water at Lee Valley Park in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, reports The mirror.
The Duke of Cambridge – who flies helicopters for East Anglian Air Ambulance – was part of the crew who tried to rescue the young man.
Videos taken during the search operation show the Duke of Cambridge landing his helicopter and walking towards the scene.
An eyewitness said of the scene: "We could see it was landing so ran over to see what was going on. Little did we expect to see Prince William himself flying the helicopter.
"It was a very surreal moment when he left the helicopter to help with the search and rescue, he had no visible guards or protection.
"He arrived in an East Anglia Air Ambulance with one other co-pilot."
Robbie is believed to have got into difficulty while swimming towards and island in the middle of the North Metropolitan Lake.
Police tragically announced that his body was found shortly after and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
