Veteran angel Shanina Shaik— who’s featured in the show five times since 2011— has revealed that 2019’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show has been cancelled.

The popular Australian model, who recently filed for divorce from her DJ husband Greg Andrews, said news of the cancellation was “upsetting”.
“Unfortunately the Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year,” she told The Daily Telegraph.
The 28-year-old went on to say: “It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an angel.
But I’m sure in the future something will happen, which I’m pretty sure about.”

It’s no secret the show has been shrouded in controversy in recent years. With body positivity being at the forefront, many have branded the show as both sexist and exclusive.
Earlier this year, fans of the show were up in arms when Victoria’s Secret announced they’d allowed for the inclusion of their first “plus-sized model”, Barbara Palvin. The decision was met with outrage seeing as the Hungarian beauty is, in fact, a size 8.
Since then, it seems as though the showrunners have been desperately trying to repair their image. Perhaps that’s what Shaik is suggesting when she claims they’re “working on branding and new ways to do the show”.

Last year alone, A-list models like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Behati Prinsloo, Gigi Hadid and Adriana Lima walked in a show that featured performances from Shawn Mendes and Halsey. The Victoria’s Secret fashion show has been an annual event since 1995.
