Everyone who sets foot in Australia falls in love with its glorious sunshine, picture perfect beaches, envious lifestyle and laid back atmosphere – and celebrities are no different.
A number of famous faces already own homes Down Under, where they spend time mostly during the summer months to escape the harsh winter in the northern hemisphere.
Other millionaire icons have long talked about making Australia their home – we are looking at you Ellen DeGeneres.
Let’s take a look at who lives here and who is dying to.
Nicole Kidman, 52
Oscar winning actor Nicole Kidman and her New Zealand-Australian, musician husband, Keith Urban, own multiple properties, including at least two in Australia.
The Big Little Lies and Moulin Rouge star and country singer Urban have homes in Sydney, Bunya Hill, Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York. Their main home is a mansion in Nashville that cost them $3.4 million. They have two homes in Australia: a penthouse in Sydney’s lower north shore, near her family home in Greenwich. She also has a $6.5 million luxury farm in Bunya Hill.
Nicole and Keith visit Australia at least twice a year, mostly around the holidays.
She doesn’t plan on moving back to Australia any time soon, she said: “We’re Nashvillians. My husband, his career is there. We’re happy there right now.” But she added: “My heart is in [Australia]. I’m an Aussie. It’s what I am.”
Hugh Jackman, 51
The Greatest Showman and Wolverine actor was born in Sydney, Australia, so it’s no surprise that he likes to jet back whenever he gets a chance to visit. Hugh and his Australian wife Deborra Lee Furness, 64, owns an eye-catching, multi-million dollar penthouse in North Bondi. He can often be seen strolling down the North Bondi Grassy Knoll barefoot for a swim or with a surfboard tucked under one arm to hit the waves.
Locals don’t bother the world famous actor, and he can stroll about getting himself coffee or popping to Harris Farm for freshly squeezed orange juice.
Depending on his work schedule, it’s believed that Hugh’s main residence is New York, where he lives in a three-storey complex in the West Village.
Speaking about his love for both places, Hugh said in 2014: “Australia is our home. We’ve been there, but New York has been our base for a while. We love living here, the opportunities are incredible, particularly for my job. It means I can work internationally and still be at home a lot more.
“You know, we miss Australia a lot, but New York is a great city and it’s a great place to bring your kids up. We go back to Australia a lot.”
Ellen DeGeneres, 61
The comedian and talk show host has expressed a desire to retire to Australia with her Victorian-born wife Portia di Rossi, 46.
“I shouldn’t put it out there, but I can see us living here one day,” Ellen said at cocktail party in Melbourne in 2013. “Not for a while as I’ve got shows to do, but I can see it happening.”
Well it might be happening sooner than you think.
Earlier this year, Ellen and Portia were rumoured to be house hunting on the Mornington Peninsula, just outside Melbourne.
It would make sense for the pair to own property as the power couple spend a lot of time Down Under visiting family.
George Michael, 53
The late singer was 53 when he died from heart disease in 2016, but it wasn’t before he made one of his dreams come true – owning a house in Australia.
The Don’t Let The Sun Go Down singer visited Australia for an extended holiday in 2010 and ended up splashing out $8 million on a luxury home in Palm Beach, Sydney. Although he continued living in London, he regularly visited his Australian home before he passed away.
Pink, 40
Singer Pink has described Australia as her “second home”. She has spent a record time Down Under, including 58-gigs on her last national tour.
The singer and her husband Carey Hart have yet to buy a property Down Under, but it seems like it is only a matter of time.
“I feel like I’ve been clawing my way in other countries my whole life and when I get to Australia, it’s these people who like me. That feels like a nice, warm hug. And it feels like there is a place in the world that I don’t have to fight as hard for who I am,” she said in 2017.
Rita Ora, 29
British singer Rita Ora is looking for any reason to move to Australia. Apparently she fell in love with the laid-back nature of Australia and said she is constantly telling her label to find a reason for her to go to Australia. Although she hasn’t purchased property here yet, it is certainly in her sights.
“I have become so touched by Australia and I love my fans there,” she said earlier this year of her decision to start her world tour Down Under.
