Lesley Tells: “There are horror stories”

My Kitchen Rules’ resident hostie, Lesley, has some eyebrow-raising stories of her time in the air

We’re betting in the 28 years they have both been flying, MKR’s resident QLD flight attendants, Chris and Lesley, have one or two good stories to tell.

“Well, there are horror stories, but none with Chris and I – we keep a fairly tight ship,” says Lesley, who also admits she’s something of an “expert in human behavior” because of her job.

“As a first responder, you need to have your wits about you,” she says. “You need to be extraordinarily calm if something goes down that could jeopardize the safety of the passengers.”

So has that ever happened?

“It’s happened a few times in my career – security issues; issues with certain passengers who become violent – sometimes not even of their own fault!

“They might have taken a cocktail with a sleeping tablet, or some kind of alcohol they don’t usually take. Maybe they’re afraid of flying?

“Usually when there’s bad behavior on the airplane it’s a sign of fear.”

As Lesley explains, when every jumbo jet on a long-haul flight becomes a community..

“It’s a village,” she says. “You’ve got your priest, your princess, your village idiot – you’ve got everyone. And you have to size them up very quickly.”

Communication is key. If you think you can get something past the hosties onboard your next flight – think again!

“We communicate very well as a team, so everyone knows about the crazy person down in the sleeping compartment,” she laughs. “Everyone knows about the princess who thinks she should have everyone else’s cushion.

“It makes you an expert in human behavior.
