He might be playing the King of the Jungle, but Alexander Skarsgard’s latest role isn’t his first brush with royalty.
In 2013, the Swedish actor trekked through the South Pole with Prince Harry as part of the royal’s ‘Walking With The Wounded’ 335 km journey in support of wounded servicemen and women. Soldiers and celebrities from Australia, the UK, Canada and America joined forces to race across the Antarctic, before it was disbanded due to weather conditions.
Now Skarsgard, 39, who is dating English model Alexa Chung—a friend of Harry’s ex-girlfriend, Cressida Bonas—has spoken of the bond he formed with the 31-year-old heir, who’s fifth in line to the British throne.
“It’s a very bonding experience to be down in Antarctica for a month…and when you’re with a small team and it’s -45 degrees, you kind of have to work together,” he told Andy Cohen Live! “You become a unit. You have to help each other out. You kind of forget who is a Prince and who is a marine and who is an actor.”
The actor and the prince got along so well, the two ended up sharing a tent in the freezing conditions—not that he’s spilling any royal secrets. “What happens in Antarctica stays in Antarctica,” said Skarsgard, adding, “I think it’s nice when people treat him like he’s just one of the guys”.
