It has only been six months since Ariana Grande dropped hit album ‘Sweetener’ but being the powerhouse that she is has now dropped her latest LP ‘thank u, next’.
Following on from the recent turmoil of her broken engagement with Pete Davidson and the tragic loss of Mac Miller, Ariana has a lot to touch on.
What has made this era resonate so well with audiences is its embodiment of how we constantly battle to make sense of our emotions and find light in the most difficult of situations.
The RnB-influenced project takes it all on – anger, sadness, confusion and retail therapy to resilience, love and happiness.
From the get-go with the release of hit single “thank u, next” we knew Ariana was taking ownership of her own narrative.
We then got “imagine’, a more vulnerable reflection piece which highlighted a natural progression from the albums first single as Ariana reflects on a lost relationship.
“7 rings” was then released as a final taster of the project that pretty much allowed the songstress to be a total badass and temporarily heal her pain through materialism.
The rest of the project follows in suit by exploring emotions, media perception and figuring out just what it means to be in love.
Thank u Ariana for continually delivering stellar bodies of work. Now take that well-deserved break, you’ve earned it!
Top new tracks: bloodline, NASA, bad idea, fake smile, ghostin, break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored.
In a nutshell: Ariana is at her most vulnerable, badass and authentic self on ‘thank u, next’ and it provides for one of her best works to date. 9/10
