Some of our favourite Aussie celebs have been in the spotlight for quite some time.
From starts on Neighbours, Home and Away and the ABC that led to Hollywood takeovers, these 10 celebs have quite the history when it comes to their performing careers.
Seeing them now, you’d barely believe they were once so cute and fresh-faced, but it wasn’t that long ago they looked entirely different.
Here are some of our favourite throwbacks when it comes to Australia’s most beloved stars.
Delta Goodrem
Delta Goodrem was just 15 years old when she signed to Sony Music, and 18 when she released her first album, Innocent Eyes in the year 2003. She instantly became an Australian favourite, with her earnest, lovely lyrics and the voice to match.
Across the years, Delta has released seven albums, survived a battle with cancer, starred as a judge on The Voice Australia, and begun to dabble in acting. She’s still very popular among Aussies, and recently hosted the ‘Bunkerdown’ sessions on Instagram during Sydney’s lockdown, in which she performed song requests live with her partner, Matthew Copley. It also seems she’s discovered how to pause time, given she barely looks a day older than she did in 2003.
Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue is one of Australia’s best exports when it comes to the arts, and she’s been beloved by all for decades now.
Starring as Charlene Robinson on Neighbours from ages 18-20 (1986-1988), Kylie won hearts across the nation, especially when her character married Jason Donovan’s character, Scott Robinson.
From Neighbours, Kylie launched a career as an internationally renowned singer and performer.
Dannii Minogue
We couldn’t have one without the other! Dannii Minogue is also widely beloved, having launched a singing career in the 1990s after a stint on Home and Away.
Danii is currently a judge on The Masked Singer Australia.
Margot Robbie
Another Neighbours success story, Margot Robbie starred on the soap from 2008-2011, beginning when she was just 18. She has joked in the past that the producers refused to kill her off, telling her she could return to the show if her career didn’t take off in America.
However, Margot had no trouble at all, landing a role in Pan Am in 2011, and then going on to star in About Time, The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad, I, Tonya, Bombshell and many, many more. She also owns a production company with her husband, Tom Ackerley.
Nicole Kidman
Another famous entertainment export, Nicole Kidman headed to Hollywood to begin her acting career in the 1980s. She’s been a dedicated film actress ever since, only just making the foray into limited streaming series with The Undoing and Nine Perfect Strangers.
Across her career, she’s also ensured she’s done projects in Australia as well as overseas, starring in the likes of Moulin Rouge!, and Australia.
Liam Hemsworth
Fun fact: Liam’s first proper acting gig was a small role on The Elephant Princess, alongside none other than Margot Robbie!
Liam’s first major movie role was in the 2010 film The Last Song, which he starred in opposite Miley Cyrus, who he would then date on-and-off for the next 10 years. He also secured a starring role in The Hunger Games franchise, and has been tearing it up in Hollywood ever since alongside his equally famous big-brother.
Chris Hemsworth
Australia’s golden boy famously got his start on Home and Away, where he starred as Kim Hyde. He left in 2007 to pursue acting overseas, where he officially became Thor, the lead role in the Thor franchise, which has also had him in many other films across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
These days, Chris is also known for his high-profile marriage to Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, with whom he shares three kids. They live in Byron Bay, on NSW’s north coast, and regularly inspire jealousy in their Instagram followers with their idyllic-looking life.
Ryan Corr
Starting out on the ABC kid’s program, Silversun, we pretty much witnessed Ryan Corr grow up as he moved to roles in Blue Water High and Packed to the Rafters. The talented actor has now landed a role in House of the Dragon, an HBO series serving as a prequel to Game of Thrones.
Bec Hewitt (Cartwright)
Bec Hewitt, once Cartwright, did seven years on Home and Away between 1998-2005. She starred as Hayley Smith, who was eventually taken over by Ella Scott Lynch, when Bec left for personal reasons.
Bec halted the acting for some time, and seemed to switch her focus entirely to her family. She married famous tennis player Lleyton Hewitt in 2005, and the pair have three children together.
Bec’s latest TV appearance was on Dancing with the Stars: All Stars, where she returned after winning the very first Australian season in 2004.
Tammin Sursok
Our final, much-beloved Home and Away export, Tammin got her start as Dani Sutherland on the show.
She left after four years, in 2004, to pursue music and acting overseas, where she has seen a lot of success in television over the years.
