The news has been confirmed.

Ben McCormack, the former A Current Affair report facing multiple counts of child pornography offences, has today been handed down his sentence.

McCormack has avoided jail and been given a three-year good behaviour bond over the shocking offences.

Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court today charged the 43-year-old reporter, as well as handing him a $1000 fine.

Judge Conlon said McCormack’s reputation had been destroyed and that the public humiliation of the case had led him to try to commit suicide on two occasions.

McCormack was arrested in Sydney on April 6, after raids of his workplace and home.

The senior journalist was later released on bail and admitted to a private hospital for mental health treatment.

He was suspended from all duties at Channel 9.

McCormack was also ordered to stay away from children as part of his bail conditions.
