Before you all berate me for this article lacking obvious enthusiasm, let me get this out of the way. I hated the movie Bird Box. So I apologise in advance if this story is short and not so sweet.

Sick of wondering? Here’s what the monsters apparently look like, according to the director

For all the weirdoes out there who are still on that blindfold challenge bandwagon (Even after Netflix released a warning for everyone to give it a rest), I have some very exciting news for you!

Your favourite post-apocalyptic thriller is getting the sequel treatment. Well, at least the novel that the film’s based on is… Sorry for the clickbait.

Josh Malerman— the author of the book that inspired the ridiculously successful Netflix movie— just announced that he’s penning a follow up to his 2014 novel, all thanks to his daughter.

“At the end of the movie, I turned to my girl Allison and said, ‘I want to know what happens next!’ and she’s like, ‘Well, you know, you could make that happen,’ so it really was this warm feeling,” Malerman says.

The second book continues to focus on the main character, Malorie (played by the legendary Sandra Bullock) however if you were hoping for the focus to shift onto her children, think again.

“As much as I care about Boy and Girl, this isn’t their story,” Malerman said. “The Bird Box world is Malorie’s story, and I wanted to know more about her. I wanted to get to know her even better.”

According to PEOPLE, the story will “take place 8 years after the ending of the first one, and will focus on exploring Malorie and the creatures more.”

While a movie sequel is yet to be confirmed, director Susanne Bier recently said she’s not opposed to the idea.

“We only just finished it!” she said referring to the first flick. “It’s funny, I’m kind of reading people asking for a sequel and I’m like, ‘Hey, hey, hey, we really just finished!’ So let’s just enjoy it for now.”
