Fans who were eager to see a black female replace Daniel Craig as the new James Bond in the franchise’s 25th movie will be pleased to discover British actress Lashana Lynch is taking over his licence to kill!
In what has been described as a “popcorn-dropping moment”, according to the Mail Online, the 31-year-old Captian Marvel star landed the role as the 007 agent in Bond 25 after feminist TV writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge intervented.

However, it’s not a complete do-over. Lynch’s character will be the one to take over James Bond’s secret agent number after he leaves MI6. As expected, Bond himself will still be played by Craig. According to an insider on set of the Hollywood blockbuster— which is currently being filmed in Italy and the UK— the movie begins with a retired Bond living in Jamaica before spymaster M (Ralph Fiennes) summons the beloved agent to help tackle a new crisis.
“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” the source told the Mail. “Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed,” an insider on set told the Mail.
According to insiders, the film’s producers cast Lynch with the intention of trying to modernise the franchise following criticism it’s sexist and outdated.
“Lashana is absolutely brilliant and Phoebe’s script is as sharp and funny as you would expect. This Bond pays tribute to some of the earlier films with a lot of humour. This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film,” the source added.
“There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he’s having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.”
