Just when you think the drama between Brad Pitt and ex-wife Angelina Jolie has been put to bed, a new lawsuit is filed or more allegations are made about their 12-year relationship.
Six years on from Jolie’s divorce filing, the infighting continues – and this time it’s about that fateful flight from France to the US on September 14, 2016.
At the time, Jolie alleged to the FBI that a drunken Pitt grabbed, pushed and shouted at her, that their children were frightened, and both she and Pitt sustained injuries. The FBI investigated and cleared the father of six, with all parties signing off on the findings.
But in a bizarre twist, back in April the FBI documents were sought under a Freedom of Information Act request anonymously by a ‘Jane Doe’, widely believed but never confirmed to be the 47-year-old actress. Jolie then sued the bureau, a move sources claim was to bring media attention to the old allegations. What’s more, she’s had the requested documents in her possession for years, a source adds.
“What are the motivations of a person to take up court time and public resources in filing an anonymous FOIA request for material they have had for years? There’s only one: to inflict the most amount of pain on her ex. There is no benefit to this,” a source close to Pitt told People.
“This is not a factual document. It’s what she claimed happened. It was investigated and there were no charges brought.”
The latest saga coincides with the release of Pitt’s new film, Bullet Train. The media junket has been a raving success and Pitt is riding a positive publicity wave.
“He has remained virtually silent other than to acknowledge things he could do better. He has remained silent on this issue because he knows that’s the best thing for his kids,” continues the source.
But the accusations against Pitt in the FBI report are shocking.
Jolie claimed Pitt grabbed her, poured beer on her, and yelled “mum’s crazy” in front of the children.
One of their six children, unnamed in the report, responded by calling their father a “prick”.
The actress claimed Pitt then moved toward the child “like he was going to attack”, at which point she put her then-husband in a choke hold.
“It was agreed by all parties that criminal charges in this case would not be pursued due to several factors,” the report read.
One thing’s clear, there are no winners in this high-profile split.
