A tale of forbidden passion and star-crossed lovers— Jess and JoJo are dreaming of a fairy-tale wedding but just one thing stands in their way: Jess’ dad Sid and his wife Lody.
Although they love their daughter, the strict Lebanese Catholic couple believes they will be sinning in front of God if they attend the wedding.
“My parents are strict Lebanese Catholics and they don’t support same-sex relationships and definitely not same-sex marriage,” explains JoJo. “We want my parents to come to our wedding, we want them to support us, but we’re constantly feeling like we’re being judged, and we wish our family could put their pride aside and just see how happy we really are.”

JoJo’s Brisbane based parents, Sid, 74 and Lody, 65, love their daughter, and Jess, but can’t understand why the girls need to marry.
“They’re good people, but they are not doing the right thing,” says Lody. “I never thought in a million years that my daughter would come home one day and tell me she’s in love with another girl. If they get married, I don’t think I will go to the wedding. I can’t. As much as I love Jess and Joanne, I won’t see them getting married.”
Sid, who believes the family needs a miracle, says: “They’re not to be together. A woman and a woman, it’s not right.”
After a five-year relationship with a man, JoJo, 38, never imagined she would fall in love with a woman, but after meeting fiancé Jess, 28, two and a half years ago, she’s the happiest she’s ever been.
“We do everything together. We bought a house together and we’ve travelled together,” says JoJo about the Brisbane couple who met online. “I actually can’t wait until we get married and I can call her my wife.”
The couple’s wedding day can’t come soon enough for Jess who is also impatient to be able to call JoJo her wife.
“I can’t wait for that proud moment where you tell someone ‘that’s my wife’.
