Carrie Bickmore is bringing an old trend back— making a birthday cake instead of buying one!
WATCH: Bickmore’s daughter absolutely LOVED her 4th birthday!
Over the weekend, Bickmore’s daughter Evie celebrated her fourth birthday and rather than spending money on a flashy, oversized animal shaped birthday cake, The Project host spent $16 dollars on ingredients, slipped into her apron, and baked one herself.
The birthday cake from a Coles recipe book was covered in smarties, 100s & 1000s and a few colourful chocolate shards, just how Evie asked it to be.
“Evie wanted a cake from the @colessupermarkets magazine for her birthday,” the mum-of-two wrote captioned a photo of the finished product on Instagram. “So Ollie and I gave it our best shot making it. Even had a rainbow cake in the middle.”
“We are available for hire for any occasion,” the journalist joked.
“Love this… no fancy schmancy wedding style kid cake. Just homemade with love like the good old days!!” one mum wrote on Instagram.
“Ohhhh my daughter saw this cake too and wants it for her birthday in June!!!! Hopefully it turns out the same,” another added.
Since sharing a snap of the five-tier cake which has no artificial colours or flavours and is already made, mums all over Australia have tried out the recipe. And you bet they gave it the tick of approval!
