Embodying the King of Rock and Roll in Baz Luhrmann’s critically-acclaimed Elvis, Austin Butler certainly looks every bit the Hollywood star.
While he didn’t have the signature black locks, the actor certainly looked the part when he showed up at the Met Gala in 2022.
Decked out in Prada for the special occasion, Austin drew attention for all the right reasons – even more so for the fact that it was his official Met Gala debut with Kaia Gerber.
The couple has been romantically linked since late 2021, and they finally stepped out on the carpet together for a series of loved-up pictures.
As a contrast, at the 2023 Golden Globes, it has been revealed Butler won’t be walking with his year-long partner, Kaia Gerber. At the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Awards, he revealed, instead of taking his girlfriend, his sister Ashely will be his plus-one.
When speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Butler’s self-described “hard” decision came down to the fact, “She’s my one and only sister, so it’ll be nice to be with her.”
Nevertheless, while we currently watch in awe over how genetically blessed Gerber and Butler are, we take a look back at how their romance began, as well as Austin’s previous dating history.
Kaia Gerber
Austin and Kaia sparked dating rumours back in December 21, 2021 after they were spotted going to a yoga class together.
At the time, a source told US Weekly the two were “low-key dating,” and that it was “still very new.” A source also told People at the time, “She seems really happy. All of her friends think he’s really cute.”
Since then, the pair have been spotted together multiple times while out and about; everything from travel adventures to coffee runs and outings to the farmer’s markets.
The duo made it official when they attended W Magazine’s Best Performances in March this year, where a photo of Austin giving Kaia a kiss on the cheek inside the event was shared.
Their appearance together at the Met was just as sweet, as they cuddled up on the red carpet and even leaned in for a kiss when they reached the top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art staircase.
Lily-Rose Depp
Before Kaia, Austin was linked to Lily-Rose Depp in August 2021, after photos of the pair surfaced of them locking lips while out in London.
While relationship rumours swirled, neither Austin nor Lily-Rose confirmed or denied that they were dating.
Olivia DeJonge
While working on Elvis, Austin was rumoured to be dating his co-star, Australian actress Olivia DeJonge, for most of 2020.
The two made headlines after they were spotted cuddling up together at a movie theatre and were seen together several more times throughout the year.
Although, it’s unclear what really went down between them as the duo never spoke publicly about their relationship.
Vanessa Hudgens
For nearly a decade, Austin was in a relationship with actress Vanessa Hudgens, but the pair announced their split in 2020 just a month before their anniversary.
“Vanessa and Austin are officially broken up, and Vanessa has been telling those close to her about their breakup,” a source confirmed to Us Weekly at the time.
The two were speculated to be together years before Vanessa publicly debuted their relationship in a 2014 birthday post on Instagram, where she called Austin the “love of my life”.
Over the years, the former couple shared many sweet moments together, including when Austin called Vanessa his “rock” at the premiere The Dead Don’t Die.
While the two never confirmed the reason behind their split, many fans assumed it was due to opposing film schedules and distance.
