Penelope Featherington’s courtship with the wealthy Lord Debling may have been the talk of the ton, but it appears that the actor behind the nature-loving Lord may have his eye on another Featherington sister, with Bridgerton star Sam Phillips rumoured to be in a relationship with co-star Bessie Carter.
Similarly to their fellow Bridgerton castmates Luke Thompson and Harriet Cains, it is believed that the pair’s romance first began to blossom on-set, with MailOnline reporting that Sam and Bessie, who portrays Prudence Featherington, got together during the filming for season three of the hit Netflix series.
The pair have not yet commented publicly on their relationship, however, Bessie and Sam seemingly confirmed their post-show romance in June 2024, with photos obtained by E! News showing the couple sharing a kiss while on a romantic stroll through Sussex.
While news of their off-screen relationship came as a shock to many Bridgerton fans, Bessie and Sam have been linked long before their time in the Ton, with the pair first photographed together in May 2023 at a West End Gala after-party in London.
Following their first public outing, Sam has continued to make increasingly regular appearances alongside Bessie’s parents, Harry Potter star Imelda Staunton and Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter, at several red carpet premieres.
Despite not explicitly confirming their romance, both Bessie and Sam have shared several cryptic hints on social media, with fans taking the brief glimpses as confirmation of their new relationship.
Most recently, fans connected that the Bridgerton duo had embarked on a romantic getaway to Barcelona in September 2023, with the couple sharing multiple nondescript photos to their Instagram stories from the same location.
While he may be destined to court the youngest Featherington sister on-screen, Bessie and Sam brought their new romance to the Bridgerton universe at the season three premiere alongside the franchise’s biggest love enthusiast Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell.
Despite not crossing paths with Lord Debling during many of the ton’s most prestigious balls, Bessie’s character is not without her fair share of romance, with season three seeing the introduction of James Phoon as Prudence’s husband, Lord Dankworth.
“Prudence and Philippa have built this very eye-roll-y relationship and then, for this nice positive person to come in, genuinely was quite jarring… He’s such a nice addition to the cast, so I’m excited for everyone to meet him,” she told ScreenRant.
