DDG and Halle Bailey have announced their split after two and a half years together.
Sharing a statement to Instagram, DDG wrote, “After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us.”
“Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other,” he continued, adding, “As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we’ve built and the beautiful moments we’ve shared.”
Bailey has yet to comment publicly on the couple’s split.
The former couple reportedly first crossed paths in January 2022 after being spotted together at an Usher concert in Las Vegas.
Two months later, DDG confirmed his new romance with The Little Mermaid star in a now-deleted Instagram post for her birthday, writing, “Happy Birthday to the beautifulest, the flyest, the sweetest ❤️ Love you forever 🥺💎.”
Reflecting on their first date, DDG told People, “We went to this Ethiopian restaurant and then I thought that was the end of the date, and then she was like, ‘I’m finna go see a movie.’ I was like, ‘With who?’ She was like, ‘By myself,’ and then I invited myself.”
After debuting their romance at the 2022 BET Awards, Bailey revealed more details on the early stages of her romance with DDG, telling Essence, “I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them.”
“I completely forgot about him, but then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally, he messaged me, and the rest is history,” she continued.
After rocketing to fame as Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Bailey opened up to British Vogue in April 2023 about her relationship dynamic with DDG.
“Experiencing deep love for the first time in my life is something I feel has opened a whole new world for me creatively,” she said, adding, “What it feels like to love someone other than your family – someone you may not have known two years ago but now they’re the centre of your world.”
After keeping her pregnancy under wraps, Bailey and DDG welcomed their son Halo in late 2023.
Rumours of Bailey’s pregnancy first circulated in August 2023 after fans spotted what appeared to be her baby bump in the background of DDG’s Instagram livestream.
Despite the couple attending multiple red carpets throughout Bailey’s pregnancy, neither Bailey nor DDG made any statement confirming or denying the speculation.
To the delight of fans, Bailey and DDG did eventually announce they were expecting, sharing a snap of their newborn son’s hand holding their fingers to Instagram on January 8, 2024.
“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me was bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo. The world is desperate to know you,” the actress wrote.
Speaking on her experience of motherhood so far, Bailey told People in January 2024, “I’m obsessed with my baby boy. He’s the sweetest angel in the world.”
“I’ve never done this before. I’m discovering so many different things about myself, so it’s like a dream come true,” she continued.
Bailey’s sister Chloe Bailey also sang the actor’s praises, telling the publication, “Halle’s the best mum ever.”
“She’s the best mum. I’m in love and I feel like [Halo’s] my baby sometimes.”
