Nicholas Galitzine is making a name for himself as the prince of our dreams in recent years. He first made us swoon as Prince Robert opposite Camila Cabello in the 2021 live-action remake of Cinderella. In 2023, he again took on the title of Prince Henry in the book to screen adaption of Red, White & Royal Blue, opposite Taylor Zakhar Perez.
His inclination towards royal roles didn’t come as a surprise for fans – after all, the British-born actor seemed perfect for the roles. Not only does he have the accent, he can pull off the uniforms! But it appears that when we say he was born to play the role, he quite literally was.

Is Nicholas Galitzine royalty?
Sure, he’s not technically an actual prince, but he’s much closer to royalty than the average person. Nicholas and his family are all direct descendants of the House of Golitsyn – one of the largest princely houses of the Tsardom of Russia and the Russian Empire.
“So numerous are the Golitsyns that soon it will be impossible to mention any of them without the family tree at hand,” Russian memoirist Filipp Vigel stated in the 1850s.
According to legend, the family which rose to prominence in the 5th century, descended from Lithuanian Prince Jurgis. The family produced many well-known statesmen, warlords, diplomats and generals, ruling over parts of present-day Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia.
The family line fell from power during the 1917 Russian Revolution, during which the ruling class of imperial royals and nobility was overthrown. During this revolution Tsar Nicholas Romanov, his wife and their five children were mudred by the Bloshevik and Russia was transformed into a communist nation.
Many noble families like the Galitzines were executed or imprisoned during the revolution, others fled the country. Nicholas’ ancestors were able to escape Russia and flee to England.
Although the Galitzines are not in power today, the family remain a non-reigning princely house. Arkhangelskoye Palace, an estate that once belonged to the family is now a Russian state museum.
Although Nicholas may not be modern-day royalty, he has become an internationally acclaimed actor. After injuries put an end to his dreams of pursuing a professional rugby career, Nicholas has gone on to star in a number of projects.
Alongside Cinderella and Red, White & Royal Blue, Nicholas has also starred in Purple Hearts, Handsome Devil, High Strung and The Craft: Legacy.
