Not long afterwards, Lara and Sam tied the knot on 28th December 2014. At the time, Lara was around six months pregnant with their first child and wore a white Louis Vuitton gown.

“I said, ‘Mum, I’m going to get married’. And she was like, ‘What? You’ve just met this guy’,” Lara recalled.

Inside Lara and Sam Worthington’s  family life

The couple are now parents to three children – Rocket, born in 2015, Racer, born in 2016 and River, born in 2020 – and spent the first years of their marriage living in the US.

“My husband really gives me this grounding and support. He’s… what’s the right word? My anchor. He really calms me and makes me feel secure” Lara told Stellar in 2019.

“I don’t have to put on any façade with him, and moving to America has meant we’re able to live a really normal life. In fact, he’s more normal than me. He’s the guy from Perth who drinks milk before he goes to bed!”

The model mum added: “I do feel grateful to have met him. I think he would say that, too. From where he was until now, he’s a totally different person. Being a dad is his greatest role ever. He’s so present with his children and so giving.”

Though Sam, who’s starred in numerous action flicks may have a tough exterior, his wife says he’s “very soft” and a “very protective man.”

“It’s the most important thing I think when you feel like you’re protected and have got that team, you need that,” she told Kyle and Jackie O.

That said, like all couples they have their arguments but when asked who wins them, Lara replied: “Always the woman!”

In 2021, the family-on-five moved back to Sydney so that actor Sam could take on the lead role of Bo in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Appropriate.

“We travel everywhere together and we never have more than two weeks apart from each other – and that really works for us,” Lara previously explained of how they keep their relationship strong amid the actor’s busy work schedule.

Now that Lara and Sam are settled back in their home country with the kids, Lara is loving their low-key life in Sydney.

“My whole schedule is based around my sons, and my husband Sam,” the mum-of-three told the Daily Telegraph in April 2021, adding that she can’t believe how different her life is now.

“Recently through the very wet period in Sydney, I did a shoot in between dropping and collecting my sons from school. Looking at the photos, you would never imagine the reality of my before and after. I love that no matter how glamorous my day can be, being a mother pulls me right back into my wild and wonderful reality.”

In 2023 Sam shared with Nova 100 the rule he and Lara follow to survive long-distance relationships.

“When you’re doing my job, you’re away a lot from your family and I’m away from Lara,” he explained. “The way we do it, we have a two-week rule, and I fly back no matter what I where I am.”

“We also FaceTime a lot, all the time, like four or five times a day just for the simple fact of then you feel like you’re involved in each other’s life,” the Avatar actor continued. “She’s sick of me at the moment, I’ve face timed her three times already.”
