His family life on Family Ties may have dominated the spotlight for much of his earlier career, but away from the cameras, Michael J. Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan have built a loving family of their own.
Welcoming their first child in 1989, the couple are now the proud parents of four children, who Michael describes as “beautiful, sensitive, intelligent, empathetic, independent, compassionate, adventurous, lovely people.”
Sharing his reflections on fatherhood, the Back to the Future star told Reader’s Digest, “Always be available to your kids… I’ve never gotten up to see something one of my kids wanted to show me and not been rewarded.”

Sam Fox
Born May 30, 1989, Sam Michael Fox is the eldest of Michael and Tracy’s four children.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Sam has also made a name for himself in the world of film and television, most recently working on Dead Boy Detectives and producing the 2020 short film Good Grief.
While he has spent most of his life behind the camera, Sam made an on-screen appearance alongside his father in his 2023 documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie. Celebrating his son’s 35th birthday in 2024, Michael wrote to Instagram, “Sam, what a trip it’s been. From the boy who had questions about everything to the man who has so many answers and still more questions. I love you.”
Aquinnah Fox
On February 15, 1995, Michael and Tracy welcomed their twin daughters, Aquinnah Kathleen and Schuyler Frances.
Unlike her elder brother, Aquinnah has pursued a life largely away from showbusiness, with the 29-year-old most recently earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Visual & Media Studios at California’s Duke University.
According to her LinkedIn, Aquinnah is currently based in Los Angeles, where she works at independent media company Annapurna Pictures.
Schuyler Fox
Similarly to her twin sister Aquinnah, Schuyler has also received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Pomona College – a private liberal arts college in California.
Following her undergraduate degree, Schuyler worked at the Columbia University Medical Centre as a project coordinator before returning to Harvard University to earn her Master of Education.
Currently, the 29-year-old has also joined the world of film and television, with Schuyler now working as a producer in Massachusetts.
Esmé Fox
Born November 3, 2001, Esmé Annabelle Fox is the youngest of Michael and Tracy’s children.
While she has spent most of her life out of the spotlight, Esmé’s proud parents revealed in 2019 that she had moved out of their family home to study at Aquinnah’s alma mater, Duke University.
“Our youngest is going off to college, so we are going to be empty nesters!” Michael joked at a Michael J. Fox Foundation fundraiser.
Marking her milestone 23rd birthday in November 2024, Michael wrote to Instagram, “Esme, Happy birthday to our renaissance gal. You do it all. Your Dood loves you very much..Who doesn’t? Keep living your best life. 😍♥️”
