New photos show the beautiful lake island where Princess Diana was laid to rest at her childhood home of Althorp House in Northamptonshire.

And as these images show the burial site, which was reopened to the public last year after a multi-million pound revamp, is still a tranquil haven of peace – surrounded by breathtaking greenery and majestic oaks.

Why Queen Elizabeth did not go back to London after Diana’s tragic death

In 2016, Althorp House announced in a statement: “The Oval Lake where Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest on September 6, 1997, is undergoing an extensive redesign to honour her memory.

“It will be completed in time for the 20th anniversary of her death, in August 2017.

“Althorp, located 70 miles from London in Northamptonshire, England, has been the Spencers’ historic home for the past 18 generations, since it was built in 1508.”

Diana’s grave was reportedly given a facelift after her former personal chef Darren McGrady visited the site in 2014 and posted a picture on his social media complaining the island was covered in vegetarian and moss.

Althorp house confirmed the remodelled site had been open for a number of events this year.
