Speaking at a media conference in Melbourne’s Plaza Ballroom on Tuesday where he made the exciting announcement, the 39-year-old stripper-turned-movie star promised the sizzling show show will “blow your mind”.
“The movies did so amazingly here, we knew we had to figure out how to raise our game to do something this audience would love,” Channing said.
“It took a few years for it to all come together but, man, did it come together. We have something planned for Australia that is going to blow your minds.”
Audiences will be “immersed” in the show at the one-of-a-kind venue that the ‘Magic Mike Live’ team has dreamt up with the world’s largest Spiegeltent, named The Arcadia, being purpose built for the Australian tour.
So expect to get seriously close to the action.
“We have built one of the sickest free-standing tents. I never dreamed of having a circus tent full of strippers… but I guess it’s now one of my dreams,” he told Sydney Morning Herald.
“It’s a dance show you can actually touch.
“For about nine months in Tampa I was an actual stripper. Then I became an actor. I always knew I wanted to tell the story of this weird, strange subculture.”
Channing, who is the show’s producer and co-director promised that fans can expect the performance, which will feature 20 cast members, to be equal parts “empowering and exhilarating” and an “evening of sultry entertainment.”
The show, based on the hit movies Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL, has already played to sellout crowds in Las Vegas and London, next heading to Berlin.
The adults-only stage spectacular kicks off in Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr in May 2020, before moving on to Sydney in November, then Brisbane and Perth.
Melbourne and Sydney tickets are on sale now, with Perth and Brisbane currently on waitlist.
