Cher dealing with ‘serious family issue’

Singer Cher has confirmed that she will not star in the Lifetime movie about the 2016 water crisis in Flint, Michigan, because a a “serious family issue”.

The 70-year-old superstar released a statement on Friday, confirming the news.

“This has been a project so near and dear to my heart and I was truly looking forward to helping tell this story,” the If I Could Turn Back Time Singer wrote in a statement. “Unfortunately, I will be unable to leave Los Angeles during the scheduled filming as I am dealing with a serious family issue that prevents me from going on location for the April filming.”

“I’m so glad that Craig and Neil [the producers] plan to move ahead and I know that this Lifetime movie will be done beautifully,” Cher added.

Sources confirmed to ET that Cher is healthy but it’s her mother, Georgia Holt’s, “fragile state” that has her concerned.

“Cher’s worried about her mother’s health. She’s in her 90’s now and does not want to be far from her,” the source told the US entertainment news show. “Her mother is not deathly ill, but is somewhat fragile. “
