Christie Brinkley’s daughter Sailor Brinkley Cook wants the world to know that she is her own person.
With a lengthy message on Instagram Thursday, the 18-year-old hit back at online bullies who shared mean comments that criticized her looks as well as her education at Parsons School of Design.
“Everyone needs to stop putting me and my siblings and me and my mother in competition,” Cook captioned a screenshot of a comment section that read: “She looks nothing like her mother. She’s average looking at best” and “She’s a pretty girl but no where near what her mother was.”
The model, who is signed to IMG, also responded to a bully who said, “Parson is the ultimate NYC school for do-nothing trust fund babies.” Cook, who just moved into her New York apartment, replied: “Pushing down the school i worked my ass off for 4 years to get into is not only stereotyping a scholastic community but is just plain incorrect and rude.”
Cook concluded her caption with impactful words. “The subject I have been meaning to touch on publicly for years – stop. comparing. me. to. my. mother,” she wrote.
Brinkley, 62, defended her youngest daughter on Instagram Wednesday with a video of Sailor to ex-boyfriend John Mellencamp’s song “Mean.”
“If you’re reading this on a smart phone, You are holding a powerful tool in the palm of your hand. It has the power to shape people’s lives, self esteem, and confidence. It can make them feel good, or scar them for life,” the mother of three wrote in the caption.
“Let’s all choose to use this machine to make the world a kinder more beautiful place. Let’s choose to create beauty, through mutual respect, compassion and love. Bravo @sailorbrinkleycook sometimes when we we stand up for ourselves, we are standing up for each other. I think we’re one post closer to A kinder world,” she added.
In June, Brinkley told WHO that Sailor was more than a regular model, she’s a role model. “She’s really a strong proponent for healthy body image and against any kind of body shaming and all for loving your body and loving your individuality,” Christie said. “She really took it to heart and really is very passionate about that whole area of health, wellness and feeling good in your skin.”
