Samuel Johnson took out the gold Logie last night for his portrayal as Australian icon Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum on the Seven Network’s miniseries Molly, but what came next shocked viewers.
Early into Johnson’s speech, Meldrum himself joined the actor on the stage, with multiple reported attempts to halt his speech.
“He (Johnson) rings me from Broome, he said, ‘I’ve been offered this role of playing you in a mini series,” the former Countdown host said.
“I went, OK. ‘When I get back home from this bike ride on this unicycle I’ll come across and study you’.”
“I said, ‘Sam, you already know me, what are you talking about?,” Meldrum continued.
“I know, you wanna study me, I’ll teach you how to be gay and be gay. He said, ‘F*** off!’”

“I know it’s very hard to play an old drama queen like myself, and you did a great job, right. So on behalf of the drama queens of Australia, I would like to crown you also with my gold hat, here it is, well done. Thank you everyone,” he said, before being applauded off the stage.
Viewers took to social media to express their opinions on the drama.
“Geez that was cringeworthy from #MollyMeldrum – way to ruin the moment for #SamuelJohnson,” one user wrote.
“Are you trying to be the new Kanye? Ugh. So disrespectful! Stay in your seat, that wasn’t your moment!” another Tweeted.
Johnson, who also won the award for Best Actor, later told media that he wasn’t sure what Meldrum was saying.
“I was standing there, saying, ‘I wonder what he is saying?’,” the actor said. “Even if I had heard it (because I’m deaf in one ear) I probably wouldn’t have understood it.”
However, he does have other plans for his full speech. “It’s about Connie for me. I had a bunch of stuff planned,” he revealed. “I might post my speech on Facebook.”
