Did you have the time of your life watching Dirty Dancing?
Well, grab your watermelons and get ready to relive your Patrick Swayze fantasies with Dirty Dancing the Immersive Cinema experience. Events will be staged at Sydney’s The Domain and Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse in March, 2019.
Not only will you get to watch the hit movie on a huge outdoor screen, but more than 50 actors and dancers will be on hand to offer salsa lessons and act out iconic scenes from the movie.
“Walking into Immersive Cinema will be like walking onto a living and breathing film set of Dirty Dancing, where guests get to become part of the world and see their favourite characters in real life,” Underground Cinema’s Tamasein Holyman says. “It’s going to be huge – it’s going to blow your mind!”
Set in 1963 at the Kellerman’s Mountain Resort, 1987’s Dirty Dancing is the love story of Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) and her bad boy dance instructor Johnny Castle (Swayze).
The movie is famous for the line, uttered by Swayze, “Nobody puts Baby in the corner”, and for the iconic “lift” scene, where Swayze lifts Grey above his head. Good luck trying that one, people.
“Internationally, these kinds of events have become a cultural phenomenon over the past decade and we’re confident Australian audiences will absolutely fall in love with the concept,” Mushroom Group boss Michael Gudinski says.
