DJ Steve Aoki has released the music video for his funky new single, Waste It On Me (feat. BTS), and it’s nothing like we thought it’d be.
The highly anticipated video from the two-time Grammy nominee is a departure from Aoki’s classic music videos, with stars such as Ken Jeong from ‘The Hangover’, Ross Butler from ’13 Reasons Why’ and Devon Aoki from ‘Sin City 2’ making an appearance.
“I absolutely loved working on this video,” said Jeong, who played Mr. Leslie Chow in The Hangover trilogy. “It’s so cool to be a part of the number one song in the WORLD. It’s even cooler that I’m working with my friends.”
The director Joe Hahn, best known as the DJ for Linken Park said he wanted to pose one simple question in the clip: Why waste time on someone who doesn’t care, or isn’t interested in you when you could be with someone who offers you so much more?
Featuring an Asian-American cast, Hahn said the music video for ‘Waste It On Me’— which has already hit number one on Apple Music— will make waves in the music industry.
“It’s bigger than music and we hope to show other Asians they are also a part of the global commercial musical landscape,” he said. “I feel so deeply about the Asian footprint in music culture that I wanted the music video to have an entirely Asian cast and director. The video tells the story of ‘Waste It On Me’ in an incredibly funny, witty, and clever manner.”
Waste It On Me (feat. BTS) is the newest installment from the Neon Future III album and the third project Aoki and BTS have collaborated on.
