Drew Barrymore is returning to acting in a new Netflix original comedy series. The 41-year-old star took a break to spend some time raising her children but revealed to Hampton Magazine’s that she is excited about the new show.
The actress announced in 2015 that she was taking time off to raise her two daughters, Olive, 3, and Frankie, 2. However, she also revealed that she would come out of retirement, assuming the right project came along.
The new, Netflix original comedy series is titled Santa Clarita Diet. Barrymore will play Shelia, the wife of Joel who is played by Timothy Olyphant. The show follows the couple, who are both real estate agents, as they go about their seemingly normal lives. However, a dramatic change sends them both down a road of death and destruction.

Netflix’s VP of Original Content, Cindy Holland said, “The genius casting of Timothy and Drew combined with Victor’s unique comedic sensibility will delight, and definitely surprise, our members around the world.”
Barrymore isn’t the first big star to work on a Netflix original production. Drew’s former co-star Adam Sandler, who she worked with on three hit comedy movies, has also made the move over to Netflix. The 49-year-old, Happy Gilmore star plays a leading role in the upcoming Netflix original movie The Do-Over. The movie, which will only be available on Netflix, will make its debut on May 27.

Kevin Spacey also signed a lucrative deal with the streaming company, starring in mega-hit series House of Cards. The American drama series follows the mind tricks and political games employed by Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) to obtain power in Washington DC. The show has been a huge success for Netflix and is now in its fifth season.
