Game of Thrones’s platinum-blonde queen Daenerys Targaryen is a far cry from the English rose persona actress Emilia Clarke cultivates on red carpets, and she says she doesn’t have much in common with TV’s ‘mother of dragons’.

The London-born leading lady instead sees more of herself in her latest role as caregiver Lou in new romantic drama Me Before You, telling Screen Rant, “I just turned up for the audition, genuinely, and the truth is that Lou is incredibly close to who I am, so this is much more me than Daenerys.”
Still, in the revealing interview, Clarke then said her two characters are actually very similar.
“But I think there’s weirdly a lot of similarities between the two because they’re both incredibly strong”, the former broadway star divulged. “But one smiles and one doesn’t.”
Prior to landing the role of Daenerys on GoT, which has turned Clarke into a household name, the 29-year-old was an unknown with only a few TV credits to her name.
Thanks to her turn in the George R.R. Martin epic, Clarke was rated as Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive in 2015.
