WATCH: Dave secretly attends the SAG Awards with Emma
The writer and segment producer for Saturday Night Live shared the news on Instagram, posting an adorable selfie with Emma, who was showing off her diamond engagement ring! He simply captioned the announcement with a pink heart emoji.
While the couple is notoriously private about their relationship, we know Dave met the Oscar-winning actress in 2016 while she was hosting an episode of SNL and starred in the hit sketch “Wells for Boys” which he directed.
It’s been reported they began dating shortly afterwards and have made sporadic public appearances since then. Most recently, the couple attended the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards together and were spotted a few months later at an NBA game and the Met Gala “Boom Boom Afterparty.”
Although the La La Land leading lady hasn’t spoken much about her two-time Emmy nominee beau, she recently opened up to Elle about marriage and motherhood, admitting her interests have changed in the last few years.
“My perspective about kids has changed as I’ve gotten older. I never babysat or anything. As a teenager, I was like, I’m never getting married, I’m never having kids,” she told the magazine. “And then I got older and I was like, I really want to get married, I really want to have kids.”
Prior to dating Dave, Emma was in a relationship with Andrew Garfield who she split with in 2015 after almost four years of dating.
“There was no drama, they’ve been apart while working. They still care about each other. ” a source told PEOPLE at the time of their breakup. “They still have love for one another. They are on good terms with each other and remain close.”
After Emma was spotted visiting the actor’s home in London while on a break from filming The Favourite, a source confirmed the exes remain close friends and “never stopped caring about each other”
“Even when they split, Emma and Andrew had great love and respect for each other,” another source told PEOPLE months later.
